Roundup: Toronto shops to support right now (that do contactless delivery!)

I'm not even going to acknowledge the fact that I haven't written in almost a year! I'll just jump right in...

These are crazy times. If you're one of the lucky ones who still has some cash flow, and would like to support some local businesses without breaking isolation, check out these Toronto spots that are still operating online through the pandemic, and will safely deliver some sweet treasures to keep you sane and serene at home!

Paradise Grapevine

This Christie Pitts bar is still delivering scrumptious wines, beers and ciders across Ontario for a flat shipping fee ($12.88 at the time of publication). I've been eyeing the 2019 Paradise mixed 6-pack, containing an assortment of the bar's own wines; the 2019 Lila Blaufränkisch from Niagara; and the Cherry B 4-pack by Burdock, which comes with four Sour Saison beers made with wild Ontario sour cherries.

Bonus: Every delivery comes with a bag of chips!

Wine beer delivery Toronto

Sisters Natasha and Vanessa run this Leslieville restaurant, and they're currently delivering to the East End on select days each week (usually Thursday and Friday, but check their Instagram to for this week's confirmed delivery days). Order before noon to nosh on their yum mac and cheese ($15), saucy balls ($15), or 2 lbs. of baked wings ($23).

You can read more about it in this blogTO article, but this Mediterranean BBQ food truck has switched its sidewalk operation to home delivery! It's such a cool idea and I hear their menu is delicious. I'm eyeballing the smoked chicken pita ($9), smoked beef pita melt ($13) and roasted half chicken with fries ($16).

Bonus: They also have a vegan option - the smoked tofu pita ($8).

I haven't tried this place yet, but I'm already in love. Husband-and-wife team Chef Daniel and Marie are offering weekend deliveries of their scratch-made, mostly plant-based meals as well as items from their carefully curated online grocery shop. They've also been hosting Digital Vegan Supper Clubs, which is the coolest thing ever. Check their site for any upcoming events, and to learn more about this wholesome spot that's "inspired by art, music and using food as a dialogue for social change."

Some things I'm thinking of ordering: one of these family-sized frozen dinners ($25-30 - at time of publication they have shepherd's pie and grilled smoked paprika turkey, yum), one of these vegan jams, preserves and spreads ($10) and these duck eggs from Homestead Farm ($5)!

Project Gigglewater

This is the raddest thing. Dundas West bar Project Gigglewater is trying something new: COCKTAIL DELIVERIES. They're taking cocktail orders via Instagram, Facebook and email, and their friendly staff is always open to any questions you might have. Orders need to be at least $50 and must be paid via e-transfer before delivery - and delivery is free! Make sure you're within their delivery zone:

West border: Parkside
East border: Yonge
North border: St. Clair
South border: The edge of Toronto (not the island)

For full details, check out this Instagram story. Bring on the expert-made margaritas!

Burdock Brewery

Bloordale favourite Burdock Brewery has an online bottle shop up and running, offering free same-day shipping when you order before 11 a.m., and when you buy at least one case or spend over $9.99. Otherwise, deliveries will be the following day. For curbside pickup, they're still open from 11-10.

Eastbound Brewing Co.

My friend Robyn recommended this one to me. Located on Queen East, Eastbound Brewing Co. is delivering these INGENIOUS brunch boxes. Each box comes with all this local brunchy goodness:

  • 1 bottle of Walter Caesar Classic Spice Mix
  • 1 Eastbound Michelada Rim
  • 4-pack of Eastbound beers (mixed pack based on availability)
  • Recipe for the Perfect Michelada
  • Eastbound's house-made fermented hot sauce and pickle skewers (to make your cocktail look professional!)
  • 1 package of Eastbound Rhubarb Compote
  • 1 baked French toast casserole (approx. 2-4 portions) - brioche with cinnamon custard and icing sugar. It's fully cooked, so just pop it in the oven to reheat!

You can also order their food and/or beer for next-day delivery Tuesday through Saturday. If you're an M4, M5 or M6 postal code, delivery is free for orders over $30, otherwise it's a $10 flat fee for shipping. PLUS, orders over $100 get free delivery across the province.

Sala Modern Thai Kitchen

Thai meal kits! This Danforth restaurant is currently sending ingredient kits to make their signature dishes at home. The kits can be ordered online and picked up or delivered to your address.

Bonus: Make each recipe perfectly with the help of their video tutorials, all on their site!

Coal Miner's Daughter

Owners Janine and Krysten are personally delivering orders across the city. I love locals who support local, and CMD is committed to carrying 80% Canadian designers - so by buying from them, you're helping that Canadian economy ALONG. My personal favourites available on their site right now: the "Zoe" earrings by Cait Wind ($35), perfect for feeling put-together on those Zoom meetings, even if you're wearing PJs below; the "Impala" top in Aqua by Cokluch ($118) for when it's finally warm enough to spend breezy afternoons working from your porch; and the beaut "Monstera Moon" print by Jess Macy ($45) - there's something serene about the piece that whispers "deep breath in, and out," which we could probably all use right now.

Bonus: They're also currently offering free shipping across Canada!

This St. Clair consignment store has extended its closing sale (everything is 50% off!) and is operating online - so you're bound to find some cool treasures at great prices. They're offering curbside pickup and local deliveries. Check out their Instagram for what's in store right now. I'm loving this vintage ~romantic~ blouse ($78 after the discount) and this denim skirt ($39.20 after the discount).

Bonus: They're currently offering 60% orders done via e-transfer! See the caption of this post for details.

A staple on the Toronto vintage scene, Preloved is still "saving the planet one sweater at a time" - just online. I'm lusting after the Sakura sweatshirt in black ($98) and the Ilis dress in powder blue ($89) - the springiest, comfiest-looking dress ever, perfect for staying in.

Bonus: $3 from every sale goes to the Canadahelps COVID-19 Community Care Fund!

[ HOME & DECOR ]

Anyone who knows me knows Blackbird is close to my heart. Paula just launched her website, and you can also peruse and order products via Instagram, from antique treasures to soaps and candles to stationary. She'll carefully deliver your items straight to you. And trust me, having worked for her, she's one of the most sanitary human beings on this Earth. My longtime favourite items: Sea Salt & Lavender soap by Formulary 55 ($15), which smells so yummy you'll be tempted to eat it; The Old Lodge candle by Folklore Candle Co. ($29), and the "Ladies' Cabin" perfume roller by Austin Press in San Francisco, which is the cosiest, yet springiest scent!

You can also check out her Instagram to see the cool antiques she has right now - I always love the old tobacco tins she collects.

Bonus: Mother's Day is approaching, and Paula is building custom gift boxes that she can deliver straight to Mom (if Mom is in the Toronto area). Reach out to create a sweet bundle your mom will love.

This Toronto painter and designer is offering safe porch pickup or safe delivery (the latter at a small cost) of her beaut, body-positive pieces. Her current series, Fat Bottom Girls, brings the colour, strength and overall and good vibes we could probably ALL use right now. Give her a follow on Instagram, where you can peruse what she's working on right now - but below are a few examples of her bomb talent and aesthetic (my fave is the one on the left)!

Bonus: She also sells her work on one of my favourite sites, Society6. Get one of these sweet bums printed on a tote, mug and more!

If you're using your isolation to practice some new recipes, you're bound to realize you're missing one or two key kitchen utensils. Cookery has a few locations, one of which is on Roncy, and they're doing free contactless drop-offs in the neighbourhood on orders over $50.

Bonus: Sign up for their online newsletter for 10% off your first order.

[ FUN, BOOKS & KIDS ]

This Danforth shop is offering free delivery on orfers $25+, and trust, this is the perfect place to stock up on stuff to keep you busy and happy at home. On my list: these cute "Cat Sushi" socks ($10) by Hot Sox; this Tiny Terrarium Kit ($7) which could be a nice, feel-good way to keep occupied; and this hilarious raccoon-in-a-Toronto-garbage-bin mug ($19.95) - like, come on.

Bonus: Orders made by 1 p.m. will be delivered the same day.

If you have little ones at home, this Roncy shop stocks ALL the puzzles and board games, as well as beautifully designed toys. Check out their Instagram for ideas, including these Ravensburger Puzzles (they just stocked ones with up to 5,000 pieces!), these must-have board games (if your collection is missing any of these classics, now is the time to buy) and these cute heart-shaped hair pins (which personally, I think could work for kids and grown-ups alike).

SGT is arranging curbside pickups and free delivery in their neighbourhood when possible.

Their site currently reads: "During the global crisis, we're doing our part to maintain physical distancing. Our retail store is closed until further notice." But they're still shipping online orders and providing local, no-contact, same day or next day delivery in Toronto. Yas!

The shop's online catalog is bursting with ideas for educational fun that'll keep you and the kids alike entertained through this thing, and I may not have children but I'm legitimately excited about this "Night-Night Balm," a safe sleep aid for babies but like, can I use it?! ($9.99 - but currently 35% off!), this Andy Warhol colouring book ($13.99) and these Andy Warhol "can of soup" crayons to go with it ($12.99)!

Bonus: They also do kids' clothes and accessories on consignment.

The time is now to stock UP on reading material! I'm a huge fan of this independent Toronto bookstore. Its multiple locations across the city (Queen West, Junction and Forest Hill) are doing contactless curbside pickup and local delivery. You can order over the phone - just call the location nearest you!
